RIO DE JANEIRO – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s early and official UFC 237 fighter weigh-ins, which featured a few issues on the scale.
The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC host hotel in Rio de Janeiro and precede the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 5 p.m. ET at Jeunesse Arena. The same venue hosts Saturday’s event, which has a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
Among those weighing in were women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas (8-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and challenger Jessica Andrade (19-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who meet in the main event. The two headliners made weight without issue, with both registering 114.5 pounds for the contest.
The same could not be said for Bethe Correia (10-3-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC), who weighed 141 pounds for a women’s bantamweight matchup with Irene Aldana (9-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC). Correia was fined 30 percent of her purse, but the bout will go on as scheduled.
Meanwhile, Brazilian athletic commission (CABMMA) officials ruled Diego Ferreira (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) out of a planned matchup with Francisco Trinaldo (23-6 MMA, 13-5 UFC), citing medical issues, and the bout was canceled. UFC officials have yet to announce a new broadcast lineup for the event.
