While the UFC does not shy away from hyperbole when it comes to promoting its fight cards, calling UFC 229, “the biggest event in UFC history” doesn’t sound like an exaggeration.
Heading the October 6 card will be a fight between current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former two-division champ, Conor McGregor. The bout marks the first UFC fight for McGregor in nearly than two years.
The last time the Irish fighter stepped into the octagon was November 12, 2016. He knocked out Eddie Alvarez on that night to capture the lightweight title. With the win, McGregor became the first UFC fighter to hold titles in two different weight divisions at the same time.
Eventually, inactivity would cost him both belts. The UFC stripped the titles from him when he did not defend either of them.
Tickets for the eagerly awaited event, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, go on sale this week.
UFC Fight Club program members have the opportunity to purchase tickets on Wednesday, August 15 at 1 p.m. ET. UFC newsletter subscribers get their opportunity on Thursday, August 16 at 1 p.m. ET. The general public tickets go on sale on Friday, August 17 at 1. p.m. ET.
