The new UEFA rule that will affect both Spurs and Liverpool in Champions League final in Madrid

It's the weekend of the Champions League final with Spurs and Liverpool preparing for the ultimate showpiece event.

The two teams will fight out to be Europe's top dogs after seeing off the likes of Porto, Barcelona, Man City and Ajax on the route to the final.

The clash will be the second all-English European final this week after Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 in Baku on Wednesday night.

As was the case in the Europa League final, each side has been handed a boost by rule changes from UEFA, which allows each manager to name 12 substitutes for the final.

Under the previous rules, clubs were only allowed to name seven substitutes but the rules were tweaked ahead of the European Super Cup clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid back in August.

UEFA has recently confirmed that the same rules are in effect for both showcase matches and a fourth substitution will also be permitted if either matches advances into extra time.

This rule could be crucial for both sides if the final was to go the distance in Madrid.

Naming 12 substitutes also gives a potential opportunity to the stars of tomorrow, with 20-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and 19-year-old Rhian Brewster in the travelling squad, while Spurs have the likes of Alfie Whiteman, George Marsh and Oliver Skipp in the squad.
