'UEFA putting sponsors before fans': Man City fans react to Champions League final vs Chelsea moved to Porto

Manchester City fans have reacted to the controversial decision to move the Champions League final to Porto.

Turkey were originally supposed to host the final between City and Chelsea, scheduled to be played on May 29, but amid their surge of COVID-19 cases, the UK government placed the country on the 'red list' which cast doubt over Istanbul hosting the event.

While it seemed logistically the most obvious choice to play the game at Wembley considering it's an all-England final, the UK government couldn't offer UEFA assurances over quarantine for the stakeholders they expect to attend.

It was announced today that UEFA had decided to move the final to Porto at the Estadio do Dragao, where City have already played this season, having drawn 0-0 with Porto in the Champions League group stage.

UEFA have dithered while making a decision and have consequently left fans in an uncomfortable position - quite understandably, some supporters aren't happy.

"UEFA putting sponsors before fans, no surprise there," the 1894 supporters group told the MEN.

"Fans will do their best to get there regardless during exceptional times," they added, while some supporters took to social media to express their feelings at the decision, which seemed mostly unpopular among the Blues' faithful.

That's not stopping fans from booking flights, though, as predicted by the 1894 supporters group.
