UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin makes poignant statement after Christian Eriksen collapse

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has paid a poignant tribute to Christian Eriksen in an official statement after the Dane was confirmed to be awake and stable in hospital.

The 29-year-old collapsed on the pitch at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen shortly before the interval as Denmark took on Finland in their opening Euro 2020 match.

After receiving CPR treatment on the pitch, the midfielder was resuscitated and rushed to hospital, where it was confirmed his condition was stable.

At the request of the players, Denmark and Finland resumed their encounter on Saturday evening.

And following news of Eriksen's recovery, Ceferin sent his well-wishes to the midfielder and his family.

“Moments like this put everything in life into perspective," he said. "I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith.

"At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully.”
