UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against the FA following Euro 2020 final

UEFA have opened a disciplinary investigation against the FA following Sunday's UEFA Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Prior to the game and in the aftermath, fans caused mass unrest outside Wembley Stadium with Metropolitan Police making a multitude of arrests.

And according to UEFA's statement there were also a number of incidents of crowd trouble during the match.

UEFA have released a statement Tuesday afternoon about the incidents they will be investigating from Sunday's game which reads as follows:

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA EURO 2020 final match between the national teams of Italy and England (1-1, Italy won 3-2 on penalties), played on 11 July at Wembley Stadium, London.

Charges against The English Football Association :

• Invasion of the field of play by its supporters - Article 16(2)(a) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

• Throwing of objects by its supporters - Article 16(2)(b) DR

• Disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem - Article 16(2)(g) DR

• Lighting of a firework by its supporters - Article 16(2)(c) DR

The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course.

UEFA's statement also reveals the organisation will investigate incidents of crowd trouble around the stadium with reports of fans allegedly breaking into Wembley.

Fans allegedly stormed security personnel ahead of the game and videos circulated on social media of supporters breaching the perimeters around the stadium.

UEFA's statement on the matter reads:

Separately, and in accordance with Article 31(4) DR, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium.

Information on this matter will be made available in due course.

The FA were fined for crowd trouble in the aftermath of the Three Lions' semi-final game against Denmark for "disturbances during the national anthem" and fireworks being set off.

They must now wait on UEFA's decision.
