UEFA have set this deadline for plans on how Nottingham Forest's season will restart

European football's governing body has set a deadline of May 25 for the Premier League to provide details of how it plans to restart the season.

The English Football League (EFL) will also be asked for its proposals.

The 2019-20 season has been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic with Nottingham Forest playing their last match on March 6, the 3-0 defeat to Millwall, before the season was brought to a halt a few days later.

Various reports in the national press have been swirling around claiming that the top flight could play matches behind-closed-doors at neutral venues in one concentrated location, with players and other staff from teams, officials and broadcasting staff to be tested for Covid-19 before they play.

The English top flight and other Leagues on the continent have all been given just under a month to detail to UEFA how they plan to restart the seaon.

Last week it was agreed that, should the Premier League and other top European Leagues bring the season to a premature end then qualification to UEFA's club competitions would be decided on sporting merit.

It has also asked the Dutch football association to explain their reasoning behind bringing the Eredivisie to a premature end.

The statement read: "National associations and/or leagues should be in a position to communicate to UEFA by 25 May 2020 the planned restart of their domestic competitions including the date of restart and the relevant competition format."

Sabri Lamouchi's Forest are in fifth place after 37 matches, well set to qualify for the end-of-season lottery of the play-offs as they bid to end their two-decade exile from the top flight.
