Uefa have ended disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea over alleged racist chanting during the club’s Europa League tie at MOL Vidi.
An investigation was launched by the governing body following December’s 2-2 group stage draw against the Hungarian side, in which Chelsea’s travelling fans were heard chanting antisemitic abuse directed against Tottenham fans.
The club condemned the behaviour at the time, which came just days after Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling suffered alleged racist abuse during a match at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s supporters came under further scrutiny when a photograph emerged of a group of fans holding a flag bearing Nazi insignia outside the stadium before the European clash. Chelsea insisted the flag was not brought into the stadium.
Under the Uefa’s disciplinary proceedings, Chelsea faced the prospect of having part of Stamford Bridge closed.
But in a statement released on Thursday, Uefa said: “The CEDB (Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body) has decided to close the disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea FC.”
