UEFA decision that will impact Manchester United and Man City away fans in Champions League

Away supporters will be able to attend the upcoming Champions League group-stage fixtures in Manchester and across Europe - subject to local restrictions.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, fans were forced to watch the majority of last term from the comfort of their own homes with games taking place behind closed doors.

As we continue to edge closer to normality. however, fans have returned to Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium for the latest Premier League campaign.

Manchester United and Manchester City are now set to kick-off their respective charges for European glory.

Indeed, once the current international break comes to an end, those two clubs follow-up a Premier League fixture with curtain-raising home games in the Champions League.

Swiss club Young Boys visit Old Trafford on Tuesday afternoon (5.45pm) and that encounter with United is set to precede a clash between City and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, which takes place across town at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night (8pm).

Initially, it was thought that only home supporters would be able to attend those group-stage games.

However, after independent group Football Supporters Europe (FSE) staged an appeal, UEFA are set to confirm away supporters will be able to take seats at European club and international matches from next week, providing they don't face any complications from local restrictions.

A post from the group on Twitter read: "FSE can confirm that away fans will be permitted to attend European club competitions matches from next week. Local restrictions & travel requirement might still apply."

Governing body UEFA have yet to officially rubber-stamp the decision on their own news channels.

However, should it be actioned - as expected - it would come as a major boost for both Manchester clubs on the eve of their Champions League campaigns.
