Uefa has confirmed that teams will be allowed to name enlarged 26-man squads for this summer’s European Championships.
Typically, managers are allowed to name 23-man squads for international tournaments but that has been increased in an attempt to mitigate the impact of any positive Covid cases.
Matchday squads will still be limited to 23 players, three of which must be goalkeepers, while teams will be allowed to call up replacements after naming their squad should any player be ruled out by illness or injury prior to their first game.
In addition, teams will be able to call-up replacements for any goalkeeper “physically incapacitated” throughout the tournament.
However, any player replaced in a squad will not be able to be re-added later in the tournament, meaning managers could opt not to call-up a replacement for players forced into isolation in the hope of having them available again in the latter stages.
