UEFA say Denmark vs Finland will restart after Christian Eriksen collapsed during Euro 2020 game

UEFA have confirmed that the Euro 2020 fixture between Denmark and Finland will restart at 8.30pm CET (7.30pm BST) after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and was rushed to hospital.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder fell to the ground late in the first half of the Group B opener in Copenhagen and appeared to receive CPR before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he is conscious and stable.

A Danish FA spokesman has said that Eriksen has spoken to his team-mates on the phone to reassure them, leading to the game restarting.

A UEFA statement said: "Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC). The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.

"The match has been suspended due to a medical emergency which involved Denmark’s Christian Eriksen. The player in now in hospital and in a stable condition. UEFA wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude."

Eriksen, 29, received possession from a throw-in on the left wing with no opponent around him and subsequently collapsed face first. English referee Anthony Taylor, two Finnish players and a Danish team-mate immediately recognised the need for urgent medical attention.

The Inter Milan player then appeared to receive CPR from Denmark's medical staff as his team-mates, visibly shaken and many in tears, formed a circle around him to offer some privacy.

After an estimated 20 minutes both teams left the field with Eriksen departing on a stretcher, surrounded by white sheets. Distressing images from the Parken Stadium showed that he was conscious and raised his hand while being carried off.

A "crisis meeting" was held between both teams and the match officials to determine whether the game should restart and their decision to be proceed is an indication that Eriksen's condition is not as bad as initially feared.

The game between Belgium and Russia will kick off as scheduled at 8pm BST.
