UEFA close investigation on alleged racism of Manchester United's Anthony Elanga

UEFA have closed their investigation into the alleged racist abuse of Manchester United's Anthony Elanga last month.

Elanga, 19, was on international duty with Sweden playing Italy when the incident is alleged to have happened on October 12.

Sweden moved swiftly to report the alleged abuse immediately after the game and UEFA launched an investigation into the incident, however, the governing body's investigator has now decided not to take the matter to its disciplinary committee.

That announcement was made on Monday and Sweden confirmed that they would appeal UEFA's decision.

The Swedish FA released the following statement: "We regret that UEFA does not now choose to take this to its disciplinary committee. There is no doubt about what the player has perceived and we will appeal the decision."

Elanga also expressed his disappointment at UEFA closing their investigation into the alleged incident.

"I am of course very disappointed, I know what I heard and what happened. I hope the appeal can lead to something," Elanga said.

"I am grateful for the support I received from my teammates and the association."
