Barcelona star Lionel Messi is out in front at the top of the Champions League scoring charts... but he will not win Europe’s biggest club competition for a fifth time.
The Argentine, who has scored 110 Champions League goals in his career - second only to the all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo on 126 - hit 12 goals this season, but Barca were left stunned as Liverpool won 4-0 at Anfield to overturn a 3-0 first-leg loss.
The next highest is Robert Lewandowski with eight goals before Bayern Munich's campaign was brought to an end by Liverpool at the last-16 stage.
Two of the competitions surprise stars, Ajax’s Dusan Tadic and Porto’s Moussa Marega, finished with six goals to their name, along with Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Ronaldo.
The Juventus star, who has been the Champions League’s top scorer in seven different seasons, finished on six after Juventus were dumped out by Ajax.
Lucas Moura, who scored a brilliant hat-trick to secure a miraculous semi-final victory over Ajax, is level with Harry Kane on five goals ahead of June's final.
With Liverpool trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all sat on four goals, Messi seems certain to secure this season's Golden Boot - but the biggest prize will elude him.
