Liverpool are set to find out their Champions League group stage opponents this afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp ’s side qualified for the Champions League in impressive fashion at the end of last season with a 10-game unbeaten run that saw them finish third in the league, behind Manchester City and Manchester United.
But the Reds need to put two disappointing European runs behind them this season, after they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Atletico Madrid in 2019/20 and by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals last term.
Klopp will want to replicate their 2019 heroics in Madrid where they overcame Tottenham 2-0 in what was one of two all-English finals in the last five years.
Chelsea secured their second UEFA Champions League trophy this year after beating league rivals Manchester City 1-0 in the final in Porto.
Next year’s final is set to take place at the Saint Petersburg stadium, home of Russian side FC Zenit.
Liverpool are among a number of European heavyweights in Pot Two, with Chelsea and City in Pot One, but the one club per nation rule in the group stages means they cannot be drawn against either.
