UEFA have explained the confusion surrounding Liel Abada’s surprise inclusion in Ange Postecoglou’s first competitive Celtic team against FC Midtylland.
The 19-year-old scored his first ever goal for the Glasgow side and he was Celtic’s best player until he was sacrificed after Nir Bitton was sent off.
There was dubiety around Abada’s place in Postecoglou’s starting eleven as it was rumoured that he hadn’t been registered but UEFA have admitted an error.
European football’s governing body made an administrative error and the Israeli star was registered in time for the Champions League qualifier.
Abada recently arrived at the Hoops in a £3.5 million deal from Maccabi Peta Tikva and Celtic boss Postecoglou praised the winger’s display.
The 55-year-old said: “It was a bright start for him. His movement was intelligent. He took his goal well and was in the right areas, whipped in a couple of good crosses.
“He’s literally had two, three sessions with us. It was a promising start. He’s a very talented young player and one we are looking forward to working with.”
