Udaipur: Hitendra Garasia's mortal remains cremated after 205 days

UDAIPUR: The mortal remains of Hitendra Garasia, who died in Russia, finally reached his hometown Godwa in Kherwara after 205 days and the last rites were performed on Tuesday. Garasia had died in July last year. The body was initially buried in Russia against the wish of the family, but was exhumed and sent to India on Sunday.

After a halt in Jaipur for identification, the body finally reached Godwa on Tuesday afternoon. Police were deployed and the cremation was carried out in the presence of family members and relatives.

Garasia, who had gone to work in Russia, died under mysterious circumstances. His kin had been demanding that his body be returned from Russia for a dignified last rites. Garasia's kin had staged a long protest in Delhi and after the intervention of Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, the body finally reached India. A wreath sent by Priyanka Gandhi was also placed on Garasia's body before the final rites. tnn
