In a surprising twist of events, UConn basketball superstar Paige Bueckers hinted at the potential for her return next season. Why, you ask? Well, it seems that the prospect of reuniting with her injured teammates, Azzi Fudd and Aubrey Griffin, has ignited a spark within her.

Bueckers, who earned the title of national player of the year as a freshman, endured her fair share of knee injuries over the past couple of seasons. Yet, despite the possibility of being a top pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, Bueckers revealed that her love for playing alongside her teammates and the desire for more shared experiences has her seriously considering another year in school.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Bueckers addressed the question of whether achieving something remarkable alongside Fudd and Griffin could impact her decision. With unwavering determination in her voice, she affirmed, 'That's, I think, the deciding factor. Me just wanting to be here longer.'

It's worth noting that Fudd, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last November, has already announced her plans to return next season. Griffin, on the other hand, has one more year of eligibility remaining, as confirmed by coach Geno Auriemma. However, the extent of Griffin's current knee injury is still uncertain, and unfortunately, the signs aren't pointing towards good news.

The Huskies have faced their fair share of setbacks this season due to injuries. Jana El Alfy suffered an Achilles tendon injury during the preseason, Ayanna Patterson underwent knee surgery, and Caroline Ducharme is dealing with a concussion and neck issues. It remains unclear when or if Ducharme will be able to rejoin the team.

Auriemma acknowledged that these injuries have forced Bueckers to adjust her role and take on the responsibility of a vocal leader for the younger players on the team. With a mischievous grin, he jokingly added that she's 'one more college year away from really, really getting it,' eliciting a smile from Bueckers herself.

Due to the unprecedented circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Bueckers still has two more seasons of eligibility remaining after this one. After taking a medical redshirt last season, her decision to potentially return for another season is an exciting prospect for UConn fans.

As the No. 13 Huskies gear up to face off against Providence on Wednesday, the anticipation around Bueckers' choice continues to grow. Will she opt for the WNBA draft or will she choose another year of collegiate basketball alongside her teammates? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain—Paige Bueckers has brought a whole lot of talent, heart, and determination to the court, captivating fans and leaving them wanting more.

Make sure to stay tuned for updates on Bueckers' decision and catch the thrilling action of UConn basketball as they navigate the challenges that lie ahead. Who knows what incredible moments await this dynamic team? The possibilities are endless.
