UConn Health doctor arrested after he coughed on co-workers on purpose, spokeswoman says

HARTFORD, Conn. _ A UConn Health doctor has been arrested after an incident in which police say he intentionally coughed on medical staff.

UConn police issued Dr. Cory Edgar a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace Thursday morning, according to university spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz.

Witnesses told police that the physician "intentionally coughed on two other medical employees at the health center in close proximity," she said, " and that the witnesses and medical workers believed he was purposely disregarding space and safety concerns involving the Coronavirus pandemic."

The number of confirmed cases in Connecticut has surpassed 1,000, although it is believed to be higher because of people who either haven't been tested or are awaiting results.

Twenty-one people have died in the state.
