UConn coach Dan Hurley undergoes successful surgical procedure, expected to be ready for start of practices

HARTFORD, Conn. _ UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley underwent a successful surgical procedure Friday, the school said in a statement.

Hurley, 46, underwent surgery to relieve persistent neck and upper back discomfort at the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care in New York.

According to the school, Hurley is resting "comfortably" and is expected to be released from the hospital over the weekend, after which he will recuperate at home. Hurley's recovery will be handled by his personal physicians, and the UConn medical staff. He will return to coaching and recruiting activities once he has completely recovered.

His coaching staff will oversee team activities while Hurley recovers, though the operation is not expected to interfere with any of UConn's official practices, which start on Sept. 28.

The Huskies open the season against Sacred Heart on Nov. 8.
