UCLA police arrest man suspected in sexual assault of student in dorm

Feb. 04--Police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a UCLA student inside her dorm on campus after a house party, officials announced Thursday.

Kvon Harris, 21, already was wanted for check fraud when the student identified him as her attacker following the Westwood party last month, officials said in a news release.

Authorities say Harris escorted the woman from the party in the 10900 block of Strathmore Avenue back to her residence hall, where he sexually assaulted her. The student and Harris "had a conversation" later that day, and the student then reported the assault to police, UCLA police Lt. Mark Littlestone said.

Officers spotted Harris at a coffee shop Wednesday afternoon in the 10900 block of Weyburn Avenue and arrested him without incident. He's being held in lieu of $140,000 bail.

Harris was known to frequent the area, Littlestone said. He also is suspected of trying to exchange another UCLA student's checks for more than $1,000 in cash, Littlestone said.

"He's been around this area for some period of time. ... We are encouraging anyone who's had contact with him, regarding checks or anything else, to give us a call," Littlestone said.

Anyone with information about Harris is asked to call UCLA police detectives at (310) 825-1491.
