Uche Ikpeazu set for £1million Middlesbrough transfer as former Hearts striker earns English Championship stay

Former Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu has clinched a £1 million move to Middlesbrough.

The bustling former Jambos frontman spent two years at Tynecastle after signing from Cambridge United.

Ikpeazu, who helped Craig Levein’s men reach the Scottish Cup final where they lost to Celtic, returned south of the border when he signed for Wycombe Wanderers.

But the 26-year-old is on the move again with Neil Warnock splashing out a significant fee to land the striker.

Millwall, Derby and Nottingham Forest were all linked with the Chairboys man but the Teesiders have agreed to shell out an initial £750,000 fee which will rise to £1 million with bonuses.

It means Ikpeazu will be back in the English Championship after suffering relegation with Wycombe Wanderers.

Warnock needed to bolster his attack at the Riverside Stadium with Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher both having left the club at the end of this season.

Ikpeazu netted six times for Wycombe with four assists but could be more clinical in a side aiming higher.

He scored 10 goals in 55 appearances for Hearts but fell out of favour under Daniel Stendel and left for England.
