UCF (0-0) vs. Florida A&M (0-0) Game Preview
The UCF season gets a nice tune-up before dealing with a trip down the road to Florida Atlantic and the home game against Stanford. The Rattlers of Florida A&M are coming off a decent 6-5 season – a huge step forward after a horrible 2017.
Why Florida A&M Will Win
Can the Rattler offense do enough to keep up the pace? The receiving corps is loaded with experience and talent, and QB Ryan Stanley is a good enough veteran to provide a bit of a push against a rebuilding UCF defense. Four of the top six Knight tacklers are gone, and the defensive line needs some of the new parts to rise up in a hurry, but the talent is there.
A&M, though, has the veterans, and it has one the best offensive lineman on the field in senior Obinna Nwanko. If Stanley can get a little time to work, the Rattlers will move the chains. But …
Why UCF Will Win
The UCF secondary is a bear. The defensive front seven will come around in a hurry, but it’s the defensive back field that should be able to clamp down on the solid Rattler receivers. A&M is missing the top pass rushers from last year, and it doesn’t have the overall bulk to hold up once the UCF O line starts to take over.
The Rattlers are better at their own pace. They’re not slow, but they want to move the chains and control the ball and the clock. UCF is going to take things to warp speed and should be able to turn the lights out in a hurry. Stanley – who threw 12 picks last year – will have to throw to keep up, and that’s when the Knight secondary takes over.

What’s Going To Happen
UCF will score early, and then take things to another level with an explosive second quarter to put it out of reach. Florida A&M will have a few good moments and just enough early stops to keep everyone interested, and then lightning will strike. The Knights will take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter, and then it’ll all be about getting the depth some meaningful time.
