ORLANDO, Fla. _ UCF's game against Memphis called off due to Hurricane Irma has been rescheduled for Sept. 30, multiple sources confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel.
The schools announced the scheduling shortly before 6 p.m.
The Knights and Tigers had to cancel nonconference games and finalize paperwork, slightly delaying the official announcement.
The American Athletic Conference announced Thursday morning numerous league school schedules were being adjusted to help USF and UConn make up their game called off due to the storm. The release noted officials were working to reschedule the UCF-Memphis game.
UCF coach Scott Frost made it clear he was frustrated the Knights didn't play Memphis before the storm hit on Friday, Sept., 8, and is eager to face the Tigers.
"We need to play Memphis," he said. "In my opinion, we should have played them that Friday night. They were in town ready to play. People above me made the decision not to play that one. We were ready to play it. I look forward to play them if we get a chance."
UCF is canceling its game against Football Championship Subdivision Maine originally scheduled for Sept. 30.
The Knights still hope to play 11 games this season after Hurricane Irma forced them to cancel the Memphis and Georgia Tech games, but athletics director Danny White told the Sentinel it would have to make sense for UCF and not put the team at a competitive disadvantage as it pushes to win a conference title.
Journalist Brett McMurphy, formerly of ESPN, reported UCF reached out to FIU to see if the Panthers would be interested in playing the Knights twice after losing the season opener 61-17 in Orlando.
AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco told the Sentinel the league would do everything possible to help UCF with its scheduling problems.
The AAC announced the following changes triggered by rescheduling the UConn-USF game:
