UCF grad sets up dental practice with a dapper twist

When Dr. David Sutton decided to set up his own dental practice, he had a lot of decisions to make. But the hardest of them all was picking a name.

Sutton, 33, is part of the younger generation of health professionals who grew up with social media and know the value of a brand.

"I wanted something that stood out. I wanted it to be an extension of me," said Sutton.

He eventually settled on the name Dapper Dental.

Why dapper? Here's how Sutton, a.k.a. the Dapper Dentist, defines it: "It's a way you feel when you're at your highest level of confidence. I want to create an experience for people so that they can feel their most confident and dapper self."

Sutton grew up in Coral Springs. He graduated from UCF in 2008 and went to dental school at Nova Southeastern University. He spent the first five years of his career in West Palm Beach and for the past two years, he's been part of a private practice in the Dr. Phillips area.

When he decided to go it alone, he settled on a space perched next to Ravenous Pig on Fairbanks Avenue. The building was occupied by Swine & Sons until recently. He's gutted the space and is building it back up.

To decorate his practice, he started thinking of something reminiscent of Mad Men style and eventually transitioned to a cool and eclectic vibe. After shopping around for dental chairs, he has picked chairs with copper finish and black leather seats, which are also massage chairs.

"It's been really rewarding to pick things the way you envision them," he said.

His practice, which will accept health insurance, except Medicaid, is scheduled to open in the fall.

"No one likes to go to the dentist. My niche is to be able to make people comfortable so that they walk away feeling positive about their experience," said Sutton.
