UCD goalkeeper Conor Kearns accepts he comes second best to his mum at election time

He may be No.1 at UCD but Conor Kearns accepts he comes second best to mum – especially at election time.

The goalkeeper has been juggling three separate roles of late, with his exams and canvassing for his Labour councillor mother Pamela taking up the rest of his time.

“She has me running two jobs at the minute. I’m not even the celebrity in the family, that would be her,” smiled the 21-year-old who has just finished his exams in social science.

“I’m still Pamela’s son. She’s in the Templeogue Rathfarnham constituency so that’s probably me being the second most famous person in the family because her face is up on the poster everywhere I go.

“I’ll be out canvassing and postering and then training. It’s a busy schedule, I didn’t get the rest I wanted after the exams but I have to give her a hand.”

Facing Rovers tonight at the Bowl, Kearns knows the Students have to end their bad run and get back to scoring having failed to find the net in their last 440 minutes of action.

But he added: “The easy way out is to say we’ve had exams and the players were tired and lacklustre.

“We probably felt it but we never want to say that. I don’t think we can ever slip into that in the league we’re in.”
