It’s the go-to transport service for many people, but Uber could soon no longer be an option for some users.
In the hopes of making its service safer for both passengers and drivers, Uber has announced that it will ban users with low ratings.
In a blog announcing the change, Kate Parker, Head of Safety Brand and Initiatives at Uber, explained: “Respect is a two-way street, and so is accountability.
“Drivers have long been expected to meet a minimum rating threshold which can vary city to city.
“While we expect only a small number of riders to ultimately be impacted by ratings-based deactivations, it’s the right thing to do.”
Uber has not revealed the threshold for being kicked off the app. However, if you’re teetering on the verge of being booted off, you’ll be given several opportunities to improve your rating.
Ms Parker added: “Riders will receive tips on how to improve their ratings, such as encouraging polite behaviour, avoiding leaving trash in the vehicle and avoiding requests for drivers to exceed the speed limit.”
The deactivations will start in the US and Canada from today, and it remains unclear when, or if, it will launch in the UK.

5. Be polite! A smile and a simple ‘Hello, how are you?’ will go a long way
