Uber Eats launches last-minute Christmas turkey delivery in London

Food service Uber Eats is now delivering “emergency turkeys” and trimmings, so those in London forced into tier 4 at the weekend can avoid a trip to a busy supermarket before Christmas.

Festive plans across the UK have changed since Saturday, leaving many people unable to travel and visit family or friends on 25 December and without the supplies for a Christmas meal.

“Christmas is somewhat different this year, especially for those who suddenly find themselves in tier 4 without being able to see friends and family,” said Toussaint Wattinne, general manager of Uber Eats in the UK, reported Metro.

“It may be far from perfect this year, but being able to order an emergency turkey along with the trimmings will help people in Tier 4 make the most of Christmas at an affordable price.”

Uber Eats is helping people avoid aisles and potential transmissions of coronavirus, in one of the worst affected areas in the UK. Residents in the capital can buy a full turkey for £20 or a smaller hunk of meat – a turkey crown – for £10 on the food app.

The turkeys will be delivered in cool bags, frozen and ready for your freezer. Each bird will come with a side of fresh veggies and stuffing. They can be ordered from 22 December until 24 December between noon and 6pm.

Those self-isolating under tier 4’s “stay at home” order have struggled to find delivery slots for the UK’s major supermarkets, which are struggling to keep up with online shopping demands.

There are currently no online delivery slots before Christmas with Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons.

Food courier service Deliveroo is now working with supermarkets Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Morrisons and Waitrose to provide deliveries to those who need groceries over the festive period.
