Uber driver left teenager locked out after 'he demanded cash for keys she forgot'

A woman claims she was locked outside her house at 6am after an Uber driver refused to return her keys she dropped in his car.

Alexandra Hall, 19, said she had been picked up outside Dominoes Pizza on London Road, Liverpool, after visiting a friend and was driven to her home address in Anfield.

After leaving the taxi, Alexandra realised she had dropped her keys inside, but failed to chase him down in time.

She told the Liverpool Echo : "I realised as soon as I got out and I literally chased the Uber down the road but I don't think he saw me."

Unable to get into her home, Alexandra reported what had happened to Uber and minutes later received a phone call.

She said: "He told me he would bring my keys back if I had cash because where they were at the time and the time of day it was.

"I said I didn't have cash and I'm not being funny but you've left a girl on her own by the side of a road at six o'clock in the morning.

"He basically refused to bring them back unless I paid in cash. I offered to pay by bank transfer as I don't carry cash and he said it would have to be cash or I wouldn't get them back.

"He then said he would drop them off at an Uber depot so I called their customer service and asked where it was and they said that they don't have a depot.

"I tried calling my housemate but she wouldn't wake up. I then ended up calling my mum (who lives down south) and panicking because there were other people around and I was sitting on the side of a road.

"I then called my friend and he had to call me another Uber to come back.

"If he hadn't have answered the phone I genuinely wouldn't have had anywhere else to go."

Alexandra said she made a complaint against the driver to Uber after the whole experience made her feel vulnerable.

She added: "They kept saying they would take it higher, and then I got a notification on the app saying that the driver has identified that he's got my item and with my permission they will give him my phone number to contact me to give them back. But he hasn't done that."

An Uber spokesperson said: "We are sorry that the user has had a poor experience, and we are working with the driver to ensure that the items are returned."
