Feb. 24--Detectives are looking for an Uber driver who allegedly yelled at and assaulted a man after being confronted for speeding through Mineta San Jose International Airport, police said.
San Jose police released photographs Tuesday showing the driver smiling as he drove away after the altercation.
The assault occurred about 9:50 a.m. on Thursday in front of a car rental facility at the airport, police Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.
The victim had noticed a white Mercedes speeding through the airport and decided to follow it, Garcia said.
As the driver of the Mercedes parked at the car rental facility, the victim confronted him about his speed, police said. The victim began taking photographs of the driver and the Mercedes, which had an Uber sticker on the window.
That's when police said the Mercedes driver stepped out of his car and grabbed the man. The driver yelled at the man and pushed him, Garcia said.
Moments later, the Mercedes driver's passenger arrived and he drove off.
The ride-sharing company is working with San Jose police to identify the driver, Uber spokesman Michael Amodeo said. Uber's safety team is looking into the assault.
"We have a zero-tolerance policy for violence of any kind while driving or riding with the Uber platform," spokesman Michael Amodeo said.
