UB40's Brian Travers faces second brain operation in 2 years after suffering seizure

UB40's Brian Travers has told that he faces brain surgery - for the second time in two years.

The legendary saxophonist, 61, revealed he'd had a seizure before Christmas and was rushed to Birmingham's QE Hospital, where he was told he needed an operation to remove a tumour at the back on his head.

Brian was taken ill weeks after turning 60 in March 2019, suffering a seizure and taken into surgery to remove a double tumour.

Now Brian has updated fans on his condition and told that he's being examined by a doctor for a second procedure.

"I've been in lockdown since I was first taken ill but I have no fears about a second operation," he said.

"After the first operation I was given a cup of tea and then told I was OK to go home."

And cheery Brian's sure he's in good hands as he's looked after by one of the doctors who saved the life of then-schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai.

In 2012 Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan amid her calls for girls to receive an education.

Brian added: "The surgeon who did my first operation is currently away, so I've been examined by one of the female doctors who helped to save Malala after the schoolgirl was shot in the head in Pakistan.

"What can go wrong when I'm in the hands of those who saved Malala? There's nothing to worry about. I'm going to be in the safest hands in the planet."

During his 2019 surgery, Brian had two tumours removed from his frontal cortex, part of the brain.

While it's left his unable to tour since, he's doubled down on his artistic efforts at home.

Appearing in recording sessions with son Jamie, he also filmed his 85-year-old dad Joseph singing a Charlie Chaplin classic to lift spirits early on in the first lockdown.

He's even put his mind to penning a film score, as well as running the podcast he co-hosts with George Galloway.

And the new lockdown and Brian's second operation came as he was ramping up for one of his biggest "dreams."

He was helping the Prague Symphony Orchestra - one of Europe's best renowned - perform some of the biggest hits in UB40's discography.

"I've never had a bucket list," he said, "but I did have some dreams... and the Prague Symphony Orchestra approached me."
