Victorians could get the chance to vote United Australia Party candidates into parliament at the upcoming state election despite the party being deregistered.
The party's founder, mining magnate Clive Palmer, voluntarily deregistered the UAP on Thursday.
But its sole parliamentarian, federal senator Ralph Babet, says it will be registered ahead of the Victorian state election in November.
The Victorian Electoral Commission received an application from Mr Babet to register the party in July.
Once an application is received, it is advertised to provide a chance for people to mount objections to its registration and so listed members can be verified.
The process can take up to four months.
The party's deregistration has raised questions about Senator Babet's future in Canberra as he becomes an independent.
He has vowed to continue standing for the UAP's values and voters.
"I remain loyal to the party, its founder and all that we stand for," Senator Babet said.
"The United Australia Party is looking forward to contesting the Victorian state election with a team of excellent candidates."
Hailing from Victoria, Senator Babet was the UAP's only candidate to make it to Parliament House despite his former boss pouring $100 million into its federal election campaign this year.
