The Saudi initiatives to protecting children in cyberspace and empowering women in cybersecurity benefit the whole world by enhancing prevention from electronic blackmail and bullying, announced Director-General of the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Hamad al-Mansouri.
Mansouri told Asharq Al-Awsat that the two initiatives launched recently by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, are important to everyone because they protect children and women against the challenges of cybersecurity.
He stressed that the two initiatives will have larger coverage worldwide in cybersecurity, noting that the Computer Emergency Response Teams in both the UAE and Saudi Arabia are collaborating with each other constantly.
The Director-General stated that cybersecurity is the main concern in the electronic and digital transformation process, noting that the biggest challenge today in electronic transactions is explaining to people how to trust the digital system and use credit cards safely.
Mansouri warned it is difficult to recover stolen money unless cybersecurity tools are developed.
In 2007, the UAE established the computer emergency center with national cadres, said Mansouri, noting that the security was divided into sections, covering banks, oil companies and sensitive infrastructure.
The UAE contributes to raising the efficiency of the security system and is considered one of the most cooperating countries in this field in the region, according to Mansouri.
He explained that the authority is in constant communication with international computer emergency centers to tackle existing challenges, such as viruses, theft and attacks on data.
Mansouri revealed that people and banking data were the most frequent targets of attacks in recent months.
