
The United Arab Emirates has discovered a “limited number” of cases of people infected with the new coronavirus variant in the country, a government official said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The official also said that those affected had travelled from abroad, without specifying from where or the number of the cases.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention announced 1,506 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 204,369.
This came as it conducted 153,157 new COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.
In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.
According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.
It also announced two deaths due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 662, state news agency WAM reported.
It also noted that an up to 1,475 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the UAE to 181,400.
