The United Arab Emirates and Lebanon have both lifted import restrictions on Japanese food-related products that were imposed following the accident at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in 2011, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry announced Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the abolishments came into effect on Dec. 10 in both countries.
The UAE required the submission of an inspection report of fishery products from Fukushima Prefecture to check for radioactive substances, but that has been halted.
Lebanon, which had requested similar reports on food, animal feed and fertilizers from all 47 prefectures, has also abandoned that system.
Following the accident at the nuclear power plant, the number of countries and regions that imposed import restrictions on Japanese food-related products reached as high as 54, but now stands at 16.
The government plans to ask China, Taiwan, South Korea and other countries and regions where regulations remain in place to abolish their curbs.
