
The United Arab Emirates celebrated on Sunday the return of its soldiers serving in the Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen during a military parade organized by the UAE Armed Forces at the Zayed Military City in Abu Dhabi.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Supreme Council members and rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes, and the deputies of the rulers.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: "Our valiant armed forces will always remain the protective shield of our state, and the firm guarantee of its pride among nations, and the force that does not hesitate to stand with all force alongside everyone who is righteous in the face of injustice and aggression.”
He added that the UAE brave soldiers who participated in the ''Operation Restoring Hope'' in Yemen made the ultimate sacrifices alongside their brothers in the Arab coalition and assured the world that the UAE's contribution would always ensure the security and stability of the region.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said his country is proud of the loyal sons of the UAE who have proven their heroism, courage and determination in carrying out their national and humanitarian duties in Yemen.
He added that the UAE would continue to cultivate goodness, open the doors of hope and provide aid, humanitarian and development assistance throughout Yemen.
"We are advocates of peace, goodness and love, but at the same time we have determination and resolve when it comes to threats to our security or the security of our brothers," he stressed, while noting the historic role of the UAE within the Arab coalition in maintaining security and stability in the region, especially in Yemen.
Asharq Al-Awsat learned that the returning soldiers constitute the largest number of UAE soldiers serving in the coalition in Yemen. Remaining forces will focus on humanitarian and counter-terrorism efforts.
A report published by the UAE news agency (WAM) said the country’s assistance included supporting the education, health and energy sectors, along with other humanitarian and infrastructure projects.
