UAB (0-0) vs. Alabama State (0-0) Game Preview
Alabama State is coming off a 4-7 season with a 63-9 loss to Auburn and without enough of an offense to keep up the pace. For UAB, this needs to be an easy step on the way to what should be a great first half of the season.
There aren’t any games against teams that went bowling until November 23rd, but this is still a tune-up for a trip to Akron.
Why Alabama State Will Win
UAB is in a rebuilding phase in a whole bunch of ways, especially at defensive back. ASU didn’t have a big passing offense, but it has enough parts back to spread the ball around and at least give the new Blazer starting defensive backs some work. On the other side, the Hornet secondary is going to be a positive against a UAB receiving corps that loses its top four targets.
If the Hornets can take the ball away like they did throughout last season, and if they can control the time of possession battle, they’ll stay in the game a bit long than UAB might like. But …
Why UAB Will Win
Okay, so the Blazer passing game might take a little bit to kick in – that’s what this game is for. Running the ball should be a different story.
Yeah, four starters have to be replaced on the offensive front, but the Alabama State defensive front that was hit for over 270 yards per game isn’t going to be all that much better right out of the gate. The UAB offense will pound away with Spencer Brown and the great group of backs, and it’ll let the defensive front do the rest. Again, there are lots of parts missing, but again, that’s what this game is for.

What’s Going To Happen
There won’t be any issues for the Blazers. It might be a little bit rocky at times with all of the new parts coming into place. The Hornets won’t have enough offensive pop to keep up after getting down early – UAB will be jacked up to prove a point that it’s just as strong as last year’s version. It’ll grow into a blowout by early in the fourth.
