The U.S. Senate confirmed nine of President Joe Biden’s (D) Article III judicial nominees and two of his Article I nominees in votes held on Dec. 17 and 18.
The Article III nominees confirmed to lifetime judgeships include:
- Jane M. Beckering, to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan
- Mary Katherine Dimke, to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington
- Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
- Shalina D. Kumar, to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan
- Linda Lopez, to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California
- Katherine Marie Menendez, to the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota
- Jinsook Ohta, to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California
- Jennifer L. Thurston, to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California
- David Herrera Urias, to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico
The Article I nominees confirmed to 15-year terms include:
- Armando O. Bonilla, to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims
- Carolyn N. Lerner, to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims
Article I tribunals are federal courts organized under Article I of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Court of Federal Claims was created in 1855 as the United States Court of Claims and was reorganized into its current form in 1982.
