U.S. orders mitigation plan for proposed Pebble mine project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ordered the developer of the controversial Pebble mine in Alaska to craft a plan that would mitigate the project's environmental impact.

In a letter dated Aug. 20 to the project's owner, Pebble Limited Partnership, the Corps said "mitigation is required for unavoidable adverse impacts to aquatic resources."
