U.S. Open: Patrick Reed snaps club over his knee after poor shot

Patrick Reed came to the 18th tee at Pebble Beach on Friday evening at even-par for the tournament, in a tie for 32nd place. He left the 18th green with one of his wedges snapped into two pieces.

Reed made a mess of the par-5 18th from tee to green, and put himself in a tough position by missing the fairway with a drive. Reed flew the green with his third shot, and then ended up in thick rough on the other side after a poor recovery. Needing to hole out to save par, Reed’s shot traveled just five feet and came to rest in the rough, and he responded by snapping his club over his leg.

All of a sudden, Reed needed to get up and down from the rough just to avoid missing the cut. He managed to hack out to three feet and made the putt to drop to 2-over par with a double-bogey 7. Had Reed made a triple bogey, he would have missed the weekend.
