The final round of the U.S. Open Sunday turned into a three-way brawl between Gary Woodland, Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose.
The three were within two shots on the back nine. Woodland held the lead after 54 holes by a stroke over Rose. Koepka, the two time defending champion, began the day 4 shots off the lead but quickly erased nearly all off of his deficit.
Through 14 holes, Woodland, who was with Rose in the final pairing, pushed his lead to 2 shots after a birdie. He had yet to relinquish his lead all day, as it ebbed and flowed between 1 and 3 shots.
However, Rose and Koepka swapped places between second and third on the back nine. Rose began to falter down the home stretch and fell to 8-over and 4 shots back of the lead after a par miss on 14.
Rose won the U.S. Open in 2013, while Woodland is trying for his first major championship.
