Naomi Osaka expressed a desire to win gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at a press conference in Yokohama on Thursday. She had returned to Japan following her victory as the first Japanese player to win a singles Grand Slam title, having won the U.S. Open final, the last of the year's four major tennis tournaments.

The 20-year-old jumped from No. 19 to No. 7 in the Women's Tennis Association rankings after she defeated Serena Williams of the United States in the final.

During the conference, speaking through an interpreter, she recalled the match as a happy one. Regarding the 2020 Olympics, she said she would absolutely aim to win the gold if she has the opportunity to play and would do her best to achieve the goal. Osaka sometimes spoke in Japanese during the conference and she thanked her fans in the Japanese language, saying that she appreciates their support.

Osaka will play in the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis tournament that will start in Tokyo on Monday.
