U.S. Bank said Wednesday it will close seven Chicago-area branches this month, adding to the 14 it has shuttered so far this year.
The sites to be closed by June 27 are in Algonquin, Alsip, Cary, Cicero, Oak Park, Orland Park and in Chicago at 2811 N. Narragansett Ave. Spokesman Evan Lapiska said the bank, part of Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, still will have about 150 branches in the greater Chicago region.
“Customers’ preferences and behaviors are changing, including a rapid migration toward digital and mobile banking platforms, and a desire for greater simplicity,” Lapiska said. “As we evolve along with our customers, we are re-evaluating our physical footprint, and in some instances, consolidating a limited number of branch locations in select markets. The same process will result in reinvestment in core retail banking markets in the form of new, relocated or redesigned physical locations by the end of 2020.”
He said customers are notified at least 90 days before a branch closure.
