
The venue for the G7 summit is the Carbis Bay Hotel, which is located on the coast and faces St. Ives Bay in Cornwall. The area is deeply rooted in Celtic culture because it was once inhabited by Celtic tribes, much like Wales and Scotland.
However, Cornwall is one of the poorest areas in Britain. In the past, the county's tin and copper mines helped the area prosper, but the economy declined in the late 19th century. Currently, only tourism is doing well in Cornwall.
The British government hopes to use the summit meeting to boost the area's economy. A Cornwall's tourism organization expects it will have an economic impact of about 50 million pounds (about 7.8 billion yen).
