Tyus Jones helps Twolves to comeback win over Suns

PHOENIX Before Friday's 98-85 comeback victory at Phoenix, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau indicated he'd stay the course with the lineup and rotations for a struggling badly.

But desperate times call for change.

On Friday night, they also called for second-year guard Tyus Jones' reappearance.

After having played nine minutes in the five previous games, Jones played the game's final 18 minutes and helped direct teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, among others, to a fourth-quarter comeback and their second road victory this season.

On their way, the Wolves went from 10 points behind in the fourth quarter's opening moments to 13 points ahead in the game's final minute.

They outscored Phoenix 31-10 in that fourth quarter on a night when Wiggins broke out of a mini-slump to score 25 points and Towns added 22.

The Wolves also held the Suns without a field goal for the game's final nine minutes and also went on to record a season-high 15 steals and 8 blocked shots, which tied a season high.

While both Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn watched from the sideline, Jones played 19 minutes and finished with six points including a runner floater that helped pushed the Wolves away for good with 2:10 left as well as four assists, a rebound and two of those steals.

The Wolves bench again was outscored, this time 21-16 by a Suns bench led by veteran Tyson Chandler's return from four games away following his mother's death.

But Jones' performance helped assure that didn't matter.

His team a loser of three consecutive games and 10 of their first 14 entering Friday's game, Thibodeau indicated before the game that he'd stay with his same lineup and rotations.

But with his Wolves struggling to stay afloat in yet another third quarter, he called upon Jones to play in the same backcourt with Rubio midway through the third quarter.

When Rubio picked up two quick fouls for his third and fourth of the game, Rubio left the game and Dunn entered to play with Jones.

When the Wolves went to the fourth quarter trailing 75-67, Dunn stayed in the game, paired this time with starting shooting guard Zach LaVine.

Jones played the rest of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter, altering a game in which Phoenix led 69-56 just after Jones entered.

The Wolves still trailed 75-67 at third quarter's and were down by 10 points early in the fourth quarter before Jones helped direct them on a 13-2 that lifted them to an 85-81 lead with 4:51 left.
