Earlier this month, it was wood. Now another company is recalling its chicken nuggets because they may contain something inedible.
Missouri-based Tyson Foods Inc. is recalling about 36,420 pounds of chicken nugget products that may be contaminated with "extraneous materials," the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Wednesday.
In this case, the material is rubber.
On Jan. 18, Perdue Foods issued a similar recall of about 68,000 nuggets over pieces of wood found in them.
Tyson's nuggets were produced Nov. 26 and include 5-pound plastic packages of Tyson White Meat Panko Chicken Nuggets with a use-by date of Nov. 26, 2019. The labels bear the case code 3308SDL03 and time stamps 23:00 through 01:59.
Tyson discovered the issue when a customer called in a complaint, according to the federal agency. The company alerted the government Tuesday.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported, the agency said, urging customers to clear their freezers of the product.
Last June, Tyson recalled 3,100 pounds of chicken tenderloins over fears that some might be contaminated with plastic. In 2016, the company recalled 132,000 pounds of chicken nuggets and patties over the same contamination issues.
