Tyson Fury has warned Cristiano Ronaldo of his plans to take over Manchester after confirming his place at the top of heavyweight boxing.
The Gypsy King retained his WBC belt at the weekend with victory over Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight, having also beaten him last year following a draw in the first bout.
A dramatic night of action in Las Vegas saw Fury get up off the canvas twice and floor Wilder three times on his way to an 11th-round stoppage.
There has already been plenty of talk as to who Fury’s next opponent will be, with Dillian Whyte looking the most likely as long he beats Otto Wallin later the month.
And Fury is eyeing up a homecoming fight at Old Trafford, having fought in the US for his last five bouts.
The Manchester-born fighter is eager to hold a world title bout at the Theatre of Dreams, even if it means taking away the limelight from Ronaldo.
“I have two fights left out here but I’d love to bring a world title fight back to Manchester,” Fury said via The Mirror. “It has always been a dream of mine to fight at Old Trafford.
“The last fight there was Eubank versus Benn in 1993 and that was massive. I’m really happy Ronaldo’s back at Old Trafford - but this town ain’t big enough for the both of us!
“If I lived in Manchester it would be a problem. But I’m an hour up the motorway in Morecambe so he’s got plenty of distance.”
Fury is a huge fan of Ronaldo, having labelled him ‘the GOAT’ following the 36-year-old’s Player of the Month award after his first month back in the Premier League.
Should Fury get his wish and fight at Old Trafford, he’ll be confident of taking on whoever stands in his path after furthering his reputation against Wilder.
“When it comes down to it, when I have to pull the chips out, every time I’ve delivered. I can only be the best of my day, I’ve done that: I’m the best fighter in my era,” Fury said.
“I actually feel sorry for all these guys who have had to fight me because I go in the dressing room and I’m not nervous, it’s a boxing fight to me, but they’re fighting the fighter of the generation, that’s for sure.
“Without sounding too sharp and clever, I believe that I could beat any man in history, any man born I believe I’ve got a really good chance of beating him."
