Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder rematch could take place this year

Tyson Fury could get a second shot at Deontay Wilder as soon as this year, his promoter has claimed.

Fury and world champion Wilder fought to a controversial draw last December which saw Wilder cling on to his belt.

Rematch talks were put on hold earlier this year when Fury instead signed a five-fight, £80million deal with US broadcaster ESPN.

The Brit demolished Tom Schwarz in the first of those fights last Saturday and is expected to fight again in September or October, and then fight Wilder in February or March.

But promoter Bob Arum has suggested the second bout could be fast-tracked.

i think we have to really look art the situation and it’ll be up to ESPN and Fox but maybe we go right to the fight," he told Helen Yee Sports .

"I felt I needed two fights with Tyson Fury to really have the public take a look at him and realise what a phenomenal athlete and personality he is, but because ESPN did such a magnificent job helping us promote his last fight, maybe we can go right now into a Wilder fight, but that would depend on how the other side feel about it.

"It could happen this year but right now we’re planning an interim fight for Fury, and they have talked about a fight with Luis Ortiz and I'm saying if those fights happen, until they happen, I'd be very, very nervous.

"It would be pay-per-view and we'd have two tremendous megaphones, we would bring ESPN and the other side would bring FOX.

"We’d have to figure out the announcing team but it would be a dual announcing team, and there would no dispute about Jimmy Lennon Jr being the ring announcer."
