Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua, Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr & the fights we want to see in 2022

The new year has set the spark for what could be an incredible 2022 for boxing, with world-title fights between global superstars becoming a regular viewing.

2021 was a fine year for boxing, with highlights including Tyson Fury's trilogy triumph against Deontay Wilder and Oleksandr Usyk's victory over Anthony Joshua in north London.

All four of the heavyweight quartet have big years ahead for a variety of reasons, while there's also plenty up for grabs across a variety of weight classes.

From unification bouts to grudge fights, we've selected the matches we'd love to see in 2022.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua

The 2021 fight that never was, Fury 's Battle of Britain showdown with Anthony Joshua is in serious doubt following his compatriot's defeat to Usyk in September.

Both fighters have hurdles to overcome, with Fury defending his WBC belt against Dillian Whyte and Joshua set for a rematch with Usyk, and the general consensus is that a unification bout is likely to go ahead without the involvement of Joshua.

That would be a big blow to boxing fans as, despite the fact that Fury is heavily favoured for victory if the two were to meet in the ring, a fight would be one of the biggest sporting spectacles we've seen in England for a long, long time.

Regardless of their upcoming results, Joshua vs Fury will always have a massive desire to be seen and while it may be a pipe dream for 2022, there's serious hope it will happen eventually.

Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has urged the pair to set their sights for a bout this year, which means that 2022 could be the year where fans will get to see who the best welterweight in the world is.

Terence Crawford excelled in the toughest fight of his career against Shawn Porter, while Errol Spence Jr has recovered following a car crash in 2019 that left him in a critical condition.

Both undefeated in their careers, a bout between the pair would unify the WBC, IBF and WBO titles and seems to be the only outcome for both fighters who have swept aside everyone they've faced so far.

Connor Benn vs Amir Khan

Connor Benn has made it clear that he wants to fight the winner of Amir Khan 's grudge match with Kell Brook - and a bout with the Manchester fighter has significant pull.

Eddie Hearn has spoken about his attempts to pair Benn against Khan previously, though he believes a fight in 2022 is unlikely as he feels both Khan and Brook will hang up their gloves for good after their clash at Manchester's AO Arena next month.

Alternative views have been shared by Tony Bellew, who thinks the winner of the bout will launch a mini resurgence in boxing and that could bring Benn into the frame.

Joe Joyce vs Joseph Parker

Both Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker are well placed for heavyweight title challenges in the next year or so but the three belts look to be tied up for the foreseeable future.

The pair will need to remain active in the meantime and Parker, currently in the pole position for a title bout, has spoken about his approval to face off against rising star Joyce, who has so far swept aside everyone he's faced up against.

Parker is undefeated since losing his WBO title to Anthony Joshua in 2018 and Joyce, ranked 1 with the same organisation, is the biggest test he can face while he waits for a title opportunity to develop.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor was victorious in her title defence last month, just a week before Amanda Cerrano did the same - putting the pair on a collision course for a unification bout in 2022.

The 35-year-old Irish ace will face-off against Serrano in a top-of-the-billing clash at Madison Square Garden, where she'll face the biggest test of her career against the Puerto Rican, who has astonishingly won world titles in seven different weight classes.

With genuine animosity between both fighters and their teams, as well as the involvement of Youtuber Jake Paul, it's a bout that's certain to create fireworks.

Fury vs Usyk

A huge unification bout between Fury andUsyk is widely expected to occur in 2022, as long as both fighters win their respective upcoming bouts against Whyte and Joshua.

Given Usyk's dominance of AJ in the first bout, the general consensus is that he will be victorious again - and it's the Ukrainian who is fancied to give Fury the biggest challenge in his quest to become the first four-belt unified heavyweight champion.

The summer is when the pair could go toe-to-toe, although boxing fans will be wary of further delays to the unification bout they've wanted to see Fury involved in for over a year.

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder

With Joshua widely expected to suffer a second defeat to Usyk, questions will be asked as to what lies ahead for the 2012 Olympian - and a showdown against Wilder is a possibility.

If AJ suffers back-to-back defeats against Usyk, Wilder would be an ideal opponent after finding himself in the same position following his two losses against Fury.

It could then set the scene for the coming years for both fighters, either leading to a resurgence or marking the start of their journey to retirement.
