Tyson Fury teases 'big announcement' as WBC make key next fight decision

A key detail has been revealed about Tyson Fury’s potential next opponent.

‘The Gypsy King’ was last in the ring for his stoppage win over Derek Chisora in December. Since then, failed negotiations with Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua have left the WBC champion looking for his next opponent as he targets a fight in September.

The lineal heavyweight champion is thought to be part of potential plans for a huge event in Saudi Arabia, which could see Fury face Usyk and Joshua take on Deontay Wilder at the end of the year. However, Fury still needs to confirm his next fight, if he wishes to stick to his preferred timeline.

The 34-year-old recently hinted that a fight agreement may not be too far away. Speaking on his Instagram story, Fury said: “Keep tuned, big announcement coming. I know I've said it a few times now but I'm very excited. It’s here, it’s landed.”

There is no suggestion of who Fury may face but WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has shared his thoughts on the situation. The organisation previously ordered Wilder to fight former world champion Andy Ruiz Jr to determine a mandatory contender for Fury. Having spoken to promoter Frank Warren, it appears that Sulaiman and the WBC will not be rushing to name a mandatory fight for Fury.

“My meeting with Frank Warren was an informal one but (one) in which we discussed the heavyweight division and how unfortunate it has been that Tyson Fury has been left aside without the fights they have tried to make,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports.

“The WBC has the Wilder vs Ruiz final elimination still in the administrative process. Such a process is not finished. The WBC is not considering any alternative.”
