Tyson Fury has taken legal action in a bid to have his name removed from the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award shortlist.
The heavyweight world champion was named as one of six candidates for the trophy which will be awarded on Sunday.
But Fury immediately asked that he was scrubbed from the shortlist - a request which was denied.
And he has now instructed his lawyers in a bid to force the BBC to comply.
"I don't need any awards from any TV stations or organisations for me to know who I am," Fury told Good Morning Britain.
"I know who I am and I know what I've done, I don't need a pat on the back and I don't need a glass trophy.
"No disrespect to anyone but I see everyone clamouring to get on the list and I'm clamouring to get off it. I don't need gratification from anyone.
"I'm the peoples champion and the love of the people is worth more to me than everything and I don't need an award.
"I've asked nicely to be taken off their list and they've decided not to take me off the list so I've had my lawyer send a letter demanding they take me off the list."
Lewis Hamilton is odds on to win the award after clinching a seventh Formula One world championship.
Snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan is the second favourite, with Jordan Henderson third in the market. Fury, jockey Hollie Doyle and cricketer Stuart Broad are the other nominees.
Fury is no stranger to controversy when it comes to the BBC's flagship sports award.
He finished fourth in 2015 following his win over Wladimir Klitschko but only after but the BBC was urged to remove him from their shortlist because of his homophobic and sexist comments.
Fury has been included this year following his stoppage win over Deontay Wilder in February which set up a potential £200million unification clash with Anthony Joshua in 2021.
In response to Fury's initial request, the BBC said: "The shortlist is decided by an independent expert panel who choose contenders based on their sporting achievement... on this basis Tyson Fury will remain on the list for SPOTY 2020."
